“Backbeard the Pirate” Visits Auburn

Partners:  Auburn Kiwanis, Cayuga Community College, “Eat Well, Play Hard” initiative, EPIC, area Universal Pre-Kindergarten providers, “Success by Six,” and the Auburn Enlarged City School District’s visiting author committee.
Matt McElligott, author and illustrator of a number of children’s books including the popular Backbeard the Pirate series, gave a free evening presentation to parents, children and interested residents.  He shared humorous anecdotes while discussing the creative process of developing an idea into a finished book.  He also used audience volunteers to demonstrate some unique computer techniques he uses to illustrate his books.

Local agencies were on hand to share information about the resources they provide to children and families.  Kids also had an opportunity to take part in fun pirate-themed activities.
