A Future of Opportunities
Partners: Cayuga Community College, Colgate University, Columbian Foundation and an anonymous donor.
The Foundation has been working with school counselors, administrators and local college officials to develop a program that introduces the idea of attending college to students who demonstrate potential but who may face certain obstacles or lack various resources to fulfill this dream.
In 2006, groups of middle and high school students heard talks about college options and toured the Colgate University campus. Future campus visits, innovative mentoring programs, and other resources are currently being developed.

“Backbeard the Pirate” Visits Auburn
Partners: Auburn Kiwanis, Cayuga Community College, “Eat Well, Play Hard” initiative, EPIC, area Universal Pre-Kindergarten providers, “Success by Six,” and the Auburn Enlarged City School District’s visiting author committee.
Matt McElligott, author and illustrator of a number of children’s books including the popular Backbeard the Pirate series, gave a free evening presentation to parents, children and interested residents. He shared humorous anecdotes while discussing the creative process of developing an idea into a finished book. He also used audience volunteers to demonstrate some unique computer techniques he uses to illustrate his books.
Local agencies were on hand to share information about the resources they provide to children and families. Kids also had an opportunity to take part in fun pirate-themed activities.

In 2003 a diverse group of citizens came together to brainstorm ways to elevate the educational experiences of students in the Auburn public schools from average to extraordinary. As a result, the Auburn Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public foundation, was formed.
