Our Blog1686 St. Rte. 38 Named for U.S. President Millard Fillmore, Fillmore Glen State Park is located adjacent to Moravia, in Cayuga County. A replica of the log cabin in which President Fillmore was born is located within the park. Fillmore Glen State Park, an oasis of cool, dense woods crowding into a long narrow gorge offers spectacular views, unique geological formations, including five waterfalls, and a botanically rich glen. The park has 70 campsites, a stream-fed swimming pool and fishing in the Owasco Lake inlet. There are several little shops and eateries nestled throughout the Village of Moravia to enjoy. In the winter, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are permitted on unplowed roads. The gorge trails are closed in winter. Deer hunting is permitted in season.
August 22 Rosamond Gifford Zoo 10 am to 4 pm Free with Zoo admission. Asian Elephant Extravaganza is an opportunity for the Rosamond Gifford Zoo to celebrate the present Asian elephant collection and highlight their intelligence, strength, size and culture. The Zoo is home to four Asian elephants, Indy, Siri, Romani and Kirina.Event highlights include a demonstration of ceremonial elephant face painting, a tradition in Asian cultures, will the days’ activities. Visitors will be able to guess an elephant’s weight, and even see how an elephant gets a pedicure! Crafts and biofact stations will also be available for families to enjoy and learn more about Asian elephants and their endangered status.Elephant demonstrations will take place both days displaying the amazing strength and skill of these large mammals.

There is a playground and a picnic area that has been add to the Mottville end of the trail. |
