Gage Was a Woman Who Changed History
Matilda Joslyn Gage was born on March 24, 1826, in Cicero, New York. An only child, she was raised in a household dedicated to antislavery. Her father, Dr. Hezekiah Joslyn, was a nationally known abolitionist, and the Joslyn home was a station on the Underground Railway. (more…)

From “The Glen Haven Water Cure,” by Luthera Rogers Converse, circa 1850. The 29- by 49-inch oil painting will be on display for the first time ever at the “Sailing Through History” fund-raiser Sept. 25 to benefit the Skaneateles Historical Society museum expansion at The Creamery. The event, which takes place from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Skaneateles Country Club, will feature carving and pasta stations and passed hors d’oeuvres, silent and live auctions, historical displays, and entertainment by the Barrigar Brothers. Tickets are $75 each/$125 for two. Checks should be sent to the Skaneateles Historical Society, 28 Hannum St., Skaneateles, NY 13152. Detail with permission of the descendants.

Workshop: 2:30 pm–5:30pm, September 26, 2009
Singer/songwriter Erica Wheeler looks to foster emotional connections
between people and place, inspiring them to act on behalf of the places they care about.
The Soulful Landscape workshop gives participants a forum to write and share their stories
about these places in unique ways. The workshop contains a presentation of place-based
songs, stories, and visual arts, followed by some writing prompts. Participants who share
their writing will delight as Erica creates a “song on the spot”, inspired by their writing.
Accommodates 10-30 participants, registration required—$25/participant, students with i.d. and
BWNC members $15.

away by memories of places deeply rooted in your past.
