Founder’s Day retools with a Street Fair and Car Show
A decision has been made by Auburn’s Founder’s Day Committee to postpone honoring Harriet Tubman at this year’s event to concentrate on preparing for a celebration of her amazing life’s work during 2013, which is the 100th year since her death.

“We can prepare a truly fitting tribute to Mrs. Tubman with more time to establish a working budget, plan events, and procure speakers and entertainment. It is very important to properly honor Harriet Tubman, who is known throughout the world as an amazing woman for her bravery, persistence, service to her country and to mankind. The last 50 years of her life were spent in Auburn, so we need to honor Mrs. Tubman with the respect befitting her in 2013.” said co-chairs Connie Reilley, Executive Director of Downtown BID and Eileen McHugh, Executive Director of the Cayuga Museum.

Founder’s Day is still taking place Saturday, August 13th with a Street Fair and Car Show hosted by the Finger Lakes Region Antique Car Club, which is in its 41st year. The Car Club has invited other clubs consisting of all manner of collectible cars to participate. There will be ongoing musical entertainment, memorabilia, food and craft vendors and various free family activities. Bring the kids and show them how cars have changed over the years. Judging, with many awards for car owners, cars displayed at historic site locations and park settings make Downtown Auburn the perfect place to celebrate Founder’s Day- “History on Wheels.”

There will not be a parade this year. Founder’s Day will run from 11AM – 5PM Saturday, August 13th. Mark your calendar and join the fun. For more information call Downtown Auburn BID at 315.252-7874.
