March 9th Maple Sugaring Workshop for the DIY Sugarer, 1-3pm
For the price of a couple pints of maple syrup, learn how to make your own for years to come! During this hands-on workshop, learn tips of the trade from seasoned backyard maple syrup producers and get firsthand experience tapping trees in the Baltimore Woods sugarbush. Included in the price of the workshop is a “Backyard Sugarin’ Start-up Kit” with the taps and tips you need to get started. Registration required before March 7. Members $25; nonmembers $40.
March 10th Art Reception, 2-4pm
Join us at Baltimore Woods Nature Center for art, conversation and snacks as we welcome Karen Burns and David LoParco as our featured gallery artists from March 4th to April 26th. The quiet and often glowing landscapes found in Karen Burns’ paintings complement the detailed images of plants, fields and bogs captured through David LoParco’s photographs. Both artists highlight local natural areas. Free admission.
March 15th Star Party: Comet Panstarrs, 7-9pm Back-up date March 16th
Comet Panstarrs should be visible in the west shortly after sunset. Its brightness is a guess at this time, but it could be quite a stunning sight. Jupiter will be visible, along with the winter skies and some of the brightest examples of nebulae and star clusters. $5 for members, $15/family; $8 for nonmembers, $25/family.
March 16th All About Bluebirds: Bill Lang Memorial Program, 2-4pm
Meet John Rogers, co-founder of the NYS Bluebird Society, for his beautiful and informative slide show. Includes the life history of the Eastern Bluebird, nest box management, other birds that nest in bluebird boxes, and more. With visually beautiful photographs and sounds, this program is of interest to anyone who appreciates nature. Following the 50-minute slide presentation there is an optional build-your-own bluebird box project. Nest box kits are $8 for members; $12 nonmembers. The slide show is free.
March 17th Community Green Breakfast at Marcellus High School, 7:30am – noon
Marcellus Rotary and Baltimore Woods Nature Center are cooking up a Green Breakfast while highlighting the benefits of recycling and composting. Participants will enjoy entertainment, a silent auction and opportunities to learn more about reduce, reuse and recycle practices. Call Baltimore Woods at (315) 673-1350 for information and tickets.
March 21st – 31st Amphibian Alert!
Each spring during the first warm rainy night after the equinox, hundreds of amphibians creep from underground lairs to vernal pools. To find out when Baltimore Woods will attempt to observe this migration at Labrador Hollow watch for alerts on our website, or call 673-1350 to be put on our alert list. $5 for members, $15/family; $8 for nonmembers, $25 /family.
March 30th Springtime Yoga for Children, 11am-noon: Preschool Yoga ages 3-5; 1-2pm: Nature Yoga ages 5-8
Spring to life with a joyous yoga class that celebrates nature’s awakening with movement, story, and song. Please bring a yoga mat, if available. $5 members; $8 nonmembers.

The hiking trails and parking are free and open every day from dawn to dusk.
Baltimore Woods Nature in the City brings authentic natural science learning to K-6 grade urban school children. Supported by the Syracuse City School District and corporate sponsors, tied to the Syracuse City School District curriculum and New York State Science Standards, lesson content supports teachers while directly impacting students. Holding programs in parks and neighborhood green spaces as well as the classroom, students’ earliest learning experiences in the sciences are relevant, meaningful and fun.
