Workshop: 2:30 pm–5:30pm, September 26, 2009
Singer/songwriter Erica Wheeler looks to foster emotional connections
between people and place, inspiring them to act on behalf of the places they care about.
The Soulful Landscape workshop gives participants a forum to write and share their stories
about these places in unique ways. The workshop contains a presentation of place-based
songs, stories, and visual arts, followed by some writing prompts. Participants who share
their writing will delight as Erica creates a “song on the spot”, inspired by their writing.
Accommodates 10-30 participants, registration required—$25/participant, students with i.d. and
BWNC members $15.
Open House: 6:00 pm–9:00pm FREE
Doors open at 6pm
• Bring a picnic dinner • homemade desserts for sale
• raffle of artwork to benefit BWNC’s Nature in the City program
• Chris Baker art gallery exhibit “Sense of Place”
7:00pm – Soulful CNY Landscape Concert-FREE
Erica writes songs that are full of sharply detailed portraits of the American
landscape and the lives lived there. Her music ranges in style from
contemporary folk to country and bluegrass. Her voice is rich and warm,
often conversational in style; her performances are engaging, inspiring
and filled with hilarious stage patter and story. Her songs evoke a
sense of place in the listener, so sit back and enjoy being whisked
away by memories of places deeply rooted in your past.

A CHILD’S CHRISTMAS IN WALES

A new tradition for Auburn

Review by Tom Woods, Special to the Citizen
Grade: A

“When I wrote last year that I hoped the Auburn
Public Theater would make “A Child’s Christmas in
Wales” an annual event, I thought perhaps that its
creators would allow the theater to mount the play on
its own. I didn’t expect Polly Hogan and Ron Ritchell
to bring it back themselves. Hogan and Ritchell, together
with APT co-founder Carey Eidel and local actor Dave Tobin,
are reunited for another round of the play running…
this December the downtown theater. (more…)
