1950s New York City.

The world’s greatest love story takes to the streets in this landmark Broadway musical that is one of the theatre’s finest accomplishments. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs – the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative and relevant musical dramas of our time.

In 1939, newly created British intelligence agency MI6 recruits Cambridge mathematics alumnus Alan Turing (Benedict Cumberbatch) to crack Nazi codes, including Enigma — which cryptanalysts had thought unbreakable. Turing’s team, including Joan Clarke (Keira Knightley), analyze Enigma messages while he builds a machine to decipher them. Turing and team finally succeed and become heroes, but in 1952, the quiet genius encounters disgrace when authorities reveal he is gay and send him to prison.

Auburn Public Theater is proud to welcome the return of Mark Doyle’s Guitar Noir on Saturday, April 4, 2015. After their debut at APT in a sold out show last May, followed by their stunning set on the main stage of Syracuse Jazz Fest in July 2014 when they appeared with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Trombone Shorty, the group ended the year with a sold-out show at OCC’s new Recital Hall in November. The April 4th concert will feature guitarist Mark Doyle’s critically-acclaimed ten-piece Guitar Noir Project, which features a core quintet comprised of Doyle and Terry Quill on guitars, Bill DiCosimo on keyboards, Edgar Pagan on bass, and Joshua Dekaney on drums, along with a 5-piece Guitar Noir String Ensemble comprised of Ally Brown, Shelby Dems, and Claire Marie Wilcox on violins, Michelle Wilcox on viola and Kate Laverne on cello.

Pianist/Composer Angelica Sanchez moved to New York in 1994. Since moving to the East Coast has played with: Wadada Leo Smith, Paul Motian, Ralph Alessi, Susie Ibarra, Tim Berne, Mario Pavone, Trevor Dunn, Mark Dresser, Ed Schuller, Judy Silvano, Reggie Nicholson, Mike Sarin, Tony Moreno, Ben Monder and many more.

Omar Tamez studied composition with Nicandro Tamez, a composer and educator who worked through several universities as well as founding his own Escuela Formativa por las Artes. He also studied privately through workshops and seminars with Andre Richard, Daniel Catan, Mario Lavista, Manuel de Elias, Helmut Lachmann, Pierre Boulez and Karl ? Heinz Stockhausen.

Peter Mack has been a mainstay in the CNY jazz music for many years. In the 70s, Peter was the house bassist at the famed Syracuse jazz club Casa Di Lisa, where he had the opportunity to play with a host of great jazz artists from all over the world. He was a founding member of Nancy Kelly’s Little Big Band and as one of the first call acoustic bassists in New York travelled extensively playing music during that time.
