Carpenter’s Brook
State Route 321
Elbridge NY
315-689-9367
The Friends of Carpenter’s Brook Fish Hatchery Stocking Hot Line will begin operating Thursday, March 19.
The Hatchery will begin its annual stocking runs throughout Onondaga County in late March and will continue
until all the fish are released. The hot line will be updated every Thursday
and provide information regarding where the fish were released the previous week.
Anglers can call 689-0003 to find out how many fish are stocked in their favorite streams.
The releases are scheduled from March 19th thru May 28th.
Located on picturesque countryside in western Onondaga County, the Hatchery was originally developed
and operated as a joint venture between Onondaga County and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under
a Works Project Administration Grant. One of only four county run hatcheries in the state, this has
been in continuous operation since its inception in 1938 and produces 70,000+ Brook, Brown and Rainbow
Trout annually. Staff and volunteers take great pride in stocking over 100 miles of streams and 10,000
acres of impoundments with 100% of the D.E.C. recommendations for these waters. These efforts are necessary
to serve the region with the state’s largest per capita fish license sales and contribute significantly to
local fishing-oriented retail sales of $4 million/year.
Carpenter’s Brook features:
Brookside Shelter, available by reservation, call 451-7275.
fish production for farm pond stocking
children’s fishing derbies, call ahead for dates
a 2-yr old stocking program, producing 15″ trophy fish
Hatchery tours for groups of 5 or more, available by reservation
