Skaneateles Speaker Series Offers Wine Program

In the next installment of the Skaneateles Speaker Series, Cheryl Stanley, lecturer at Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration, will speak on “Fun Food Wines to Complement Your Next Business Dinner.”

The program, organized by the Professional Services Committee of the Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce, will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at The Lodge at Welch Allyn, 4355 State Street Road, Skaneateles Falls. The public is invited to attend.

Stanley, who teaches Cornell’s popular Introduction to Wines course, will show participants how to read a wine list and artfully pair wine with food.

The program will include a tasting of Finger Lakes and international wines.

Stanley, who has studied and taught at The Culinary Institute of America, was founding partner of Cheryl Stanley Restaurant Consulting prior to joining Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration.

She is a former wine director and sommelier for The Wine Cask Restaurant in Santa Barbara, Calif. She also held management positions at the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach, Calif.

The evening will include opportunities for networking, door prizes and a silent auction. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

At 7pm the witching hour begins as we welcome guests to enter our new Village of the Damned. Your admission provides you access to unique Halloween entertainment with our comedy-horror shows created by the cast of our very own professional Sterling Renaissance Festival actors. Enter at your own risk as you will be lured by demons, pursued by zombies, and sought by vampires whom wish to feast on your blood. Along your travels you will interact with gruesome village inhabitants and be subjected to mischief and evil. Stops along the way will often provide for misguided security while partaking in the comedy-horror of our live stage shows. Don’t let your guard down as you proceed through this lost village of the damned, because danger looms at every turn.

You will also have opportunity to foresee your destiny through the eyes of a gypsy or desperately seek to find your way out of the Hospital of Horror maze, at an additional cost of $5. What is for certain is that you will not leave the same as you came in…or perhaps not at all! You have been forewarned!

Recommended for ages 10 and up. Come hungry to enjoy some brain food at the Fiery Pits of Hell’s Kitchen concession stand.
