Here is a link to a guy has is exactly wrong. 

“There was some question yesterday about how to pronounce Skaneateles. It’s Skinny-atlas. I forget that it’s a strange looking word - it’s Iroquois, I believe. There are a lot of Native American place names around here: Canandaigua, Gananda, Cheektowaga, Tonawanda. I think they are pretty names, but I forget that they’re not always easily pronounced.”
