“Earnest is coming!”

The Auburn Players are proud to present Oscar Wilde’s, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST at the Auburn Public Theater November 13, 14, 15 2009. Directed by Collin Sullivan

“…swift, sardonic repartee in Wilde’s masterpiece ripples through the ages. Probably the wittiest play in the English language.” —Carlyn James New York Times May 2008
The story revolves around the most ingenious case of “manufactured” mistaken identity ever put into a play. Wilde’s comedic masterpiece satirizes English society in the late Victorian era. Two wealthy young men pretend their names are Earnest in order to impress their beloveds. Audiences have loved this play since it opened in 1895.
