Auburn Players Community Theatre 2nd Stage announces the 2008 Original Short Play Festival premiere, Friday, September 26thAdditional performances: Sep 27, 28 & Oct 3, 4, 5. Fri & Sat performances at 8pm and Sunday Matinees at 2

Five plays comprise the 2008 “Original Short Play Festival” produced by the Second Stage wing of the Auburn Players Community Theatre, Inc.
The first play in the Festival will be “Promises to Keep” by first-time playwright/actor Marcus Brumberger of Auburn. His work is a tribute to his mother and all mothers who give their children ‘roots and wings’.
The next play will be by Linda Rohrig of Manlius. She earns her living as a computer tech and spends her free time creatively answering the question, “what if?” In her first play, “Transitions”, soldiers face the reality of war and redemption.
Geneva playwright Kathryn White draws on her reading and experience as a tour guide at Rose Hill Mansion to write about spiritualists and séances in the 1860s in “Medium”, the third play of the program.
Next, the Auburn Players Second Stage will be premiering George Freek’s latest short play “After Godot”. George lives in Belvidere, Illinois and has had his plays produced by the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre, the West Coast Ensemble in LA, the Pittsburgh New Works Festival, the 13th Street Theater in New York, and the Vortex Theatre in Austin and overseas.
Rounding out the Festival is “Shopping Spree” by Sarasota, Florida playwright Maureen Martin. This play was inspired by all the people who need to buy everything on their shopping lists. Maureen’s plays have been produced as off-Broadway, regional, and
syndicated radio productions. She has also worked in broadcast and stage production and as a theatre critic and columnist.

The Festival will be held at the Auburn Public Theatre on Fridays and Saturdays, September 26, 27, and October 3, 4, at 8pm and on Sundays, September 28, and October 5, at 2pm at the Auburn Public Theater, 108 Genesee St. in Downtown Auburn. Historic Homes Tour 2008 & Art in the Park Saturday October 4th, 2008 from 10AM – 4PM

The homes tour showcases seven homes in the vicinity of Hoopes Park, on East Genesee Street, and Art in the Park includes an art show and sale, plus entertainment, food, and a First Edition book signing by Kevin Rivoli, photographer and author of “In Search of Norman Rockwell’s America.”

In addition, Auburnians and residents from around the Hoopes Park area will be combining their postcards and artifacts to create a display commemorating the beauty of Hoopes Park.

Musical entertainment will be offered all day long, performers include: Jazzitude, featuring Lou Nocilly on saxophone; Warren Robinson on trumpet; Mike Burns on bass and Dave Chitambar on drums will set the pace, with a lively mix of Big Band standards and Latin Bosa Nova. Well known throughout the local music scene, each musician has played at many local venues, the most recent performance at Big Kahuna’s.

Vocalist Mimi McHale and her band, Second Wind, offer smooth jazz, blues, country and Latin rhythms. This close-knit ensemble, consisting of McHale, manager/guitarist Bill Tracy, bassist Dave Arliss, flautist/vocalist Cathy Mullarney and guitarist Bob Felter have been performing in Auburn and the surrounding area for the past six years, since the first cocktail party fundraiser for the Matthew House.

Paul Saltarello playing mandolin and vocals, with a special guest accordionist, rounds out the afternoon with traditional Italian-American music. Paul, who also sings at Rosalie’s Cuchina, in Skaneateles, is a well known and much loved local musician, having entertained local audiences for many years. Adding to his accomplishments, Paul is presently leading an Italian American folklore group in Rochester, and can be heard on the radio every Sunday morning from 9 -11AM on WDWN.

Houses on the tour will include the residences of:

Dr. Michael & Julie Speck’s home, at 109 Herman Ave., is a brick and wood colonial located across the street from the park’s entrance. The home features a large cooking fireplace with a nearby beehive oven, and a well-kept Williamsburg garden.
Dr. Joseph & Shelley Graney’s home on Teller Ave. was formerly owned by Dr. Stapleton, an avid collector of baseball memorabilia. Some of the memorabilia will be displayed in the home. The house has brick exterior and expansive grounds, including the stream that feeds into Hoopes Park.
Eileen Golden’s home at 36 S. Marvine Ave. is a charming residence, built by Auburn High School students. The home includes unusual upstairs windows and a folding garage door.
Eric & Sandy Leader’s colonial home, at 21 S. Marvine Ave. has a newly remodeled kitchen and other interior and exterior changes, including the addition of a large patio and pool area. The residence boarders Hoopes Park on the east side.
Donna Hunt’s home, at 3 S. Marvine Ave., was built in the 1950′s and offers a spectacular view of Hoopes Park. The home includes features that were new and innovative in the 50s.
Rick & Mena Hansinger’s home at 2 S. Marvine Ave is a center stair colonial style with a large exterior addition that includes a large open stairway.
Andy & Sarah Morabito’s home at 226 E. Genesee St. is a Dutch Colonial design, with a remodeled kitchen and renovated grounds and pool area. The home is located on the eastern boarder of Hoopes Park and offers a pleasant view of Hoopes Pond.

Concessions will be offered during the event to benefit the Boy Scouts & Community Preservation Committee. Additional parking is available at the Baptist Church near Herman Avenue Elementary School as well as in the school lot.

Home Tour tickets are $20 in advance available at Willard Memorial Chapel, $25 the day of the event at the Hoopes Park Clubhouse.

2008 Downtown Auburn, NY Summer Concert Series:

 
On Wednesday Nights this July and August, the BID will be hosting a series of FREE outdoor public concerts in Downtown Auburn.  This series was made possible in part by public funding that the BID received from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization Program, which is administered locally by the Phelps Arts Center and the Phelps Historical Society.
