February 12th – The Life of Harriet Tubman: A Spiritual Journey Through Music – Willard Memorial Chapel, 17 Nelson St., Auburn. The Syracuse Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (SGMWA), under the direction of Dr. Joan R. Hillsman, will present a concert of inspired African music and Negro spirituals to honor and celebrate the life of Harriet Tubman. Co-sponsored by the Harriet Tubman Boosters Club, this event will feature music composed and directed by Dr. Hillsman, and performed by members of the Syracuse Chapter of the Gospel Music Workshop of America. Sunday, September 17 – Sunday, November 6 – Westminster Church 150 Years – Cayuga Museum, 203 Genesee St., Auburn. The exhibit will look at major themes and events throughout the history of the church ranging from education and outreach to the Church’s famous Tiffany window. The exhibit will also Westminster’s strong involvement in various civil rights movements: the church was founded in 1861, when 66 abolitionist members left Second Presbyterian Church following the Rev. Henry Fowler, who was forced to leave because of the controversy he caused by praying publicly for the soul of John Brown.The exhibit will feature objects and photographs from both the collection of the Cayuga Museum and Westminster Church.
