The New York Wine Festival is excited to launch and establish the first wine festival in New York State that not only showcases fine wines from the three main wine growing regions in New York to tempt the wine expert, but also brings interactive workshops, tasting tents, food and live music for the wine curious as well.

The New York Wine Festival was born when a group of the more serious wine makers wanted a festival that focused on all three regions of New York’s wineries rather than segregating them; this would unite them together as New York State Wines. They approached Mirbeau Inn & Spa and asked the property to be the host for the premier year. Having a high interest in fine wine in it’s restaurant, Wine Bar and featured vinotherapy treatments in the spa, Mirbeau readily accepted the invitation and voila! The First Annual Wine Festival had a home.

The festivities begin on Friday, September 24th with a Wine Pairing Dinner and continue through the weekend with events such as winery tours, seminars, tasting & voting, spa treatments, food & tasting tents, and live music until 4pm on Sunday, September 26th.

WAKING MATILDA

The Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation’s annual fundraising weekend, The Wonderful Weekend of Gage, will feature the premiere of actor and playwright Mimi Kennedy’s one-woman show, “Waking Matilda.” The show was written specifically for the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation. Performances will be at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. with a catered reception with Kennedy between performances. The show is co-sponsored with Planned Parenthood of the Rochester/Syracuse Region.

BIOGRAPHY

Mimi Kennedy is an actress, author and activist. Currently starring opposite James Gandolfini in the critically-acclaimed British anti-war film “In The Loop” she is perhaps best known to TV audience as Abby, Dharma’s hippie mom in the sitcom “Dharma&Greg.” Other series include “Three Girls Three” “The Two Of Us” (opposite the late-great British comic Peter Cook) and “Homefront” (for which she received TV Film Critics nomination as Best Actress.) She appeared frequently on Bill Maher’s “Politically Incorrect” as a foil to right-wing pundits. Feature films include “Erin Brokovich”, “Buddy”, “Immediate Family” and “Pump Up the Volume.” In 2003, she stood with Dennis Kucinich when he announced his anti-war presidential campaign and in 2004 she accepted the volunteer Chairmanship of the National Advisory Board Chair for Progressive Democrats of America. Her one-night-only, sold-out performance as Laura Bush in Tony Kushner’s rarely-performed anti-war play, “Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Be Unhappy” helped launch PDA, which currently has approximately 140,000 members across the U.S., organized by congressional district, bringing an Inside/Outside strategy to state and national Democratic Party organizations and onto Capitol Hill via the Congressional Progressive Caucus. She has worked extensively on its Healthcare Not Warfare campaign and leads its Election Integrity Task Force to eradicate the nation’s fraud capacity of no-check-or-balance electronic vote-counts. She lives in LA with her husband of 31 years, English teacher Larry Dilg, with whom she was matched by the first computer dating program, Operation Match. They’d subscribed, in college, as a joke. They have two grown children. “Taken To The Stage; The Education of An Actress” is her mid-life memoir (Smith & Kraus, 1996). “Waking Matilda” is her second play. In the eighties, “The Manicure” written for the National Theater Workshop of the Handicapped, was performed at The Kennedy Center. Her coming-of-age novel about upstate New York, “After The Hollygreen Ball” will be published serially on her website, www.mimikennedy.us , starting this winter.
