Melissa Johnson:  New Works

Melissa Johnson’s abstract paintings and drawings incorporate organic forms that sometimes suggest figurative and animal imagery.  The works are layered and textured with a variety of marks and materials, including acrylic and encaustic paint, a range of drawing materials, string and collage.  She studied Painting and Drawing at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, as well as Rural Sociology at Cornell University.  She teaches Studio Art at Cayuga Community College.

      Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center – Noon-5pm.  Free.  Quilts made by 72 artists from all over the world will be on view in the annual Quilts=Art=Quilts exhibition.  Families are invited to complete a scavenger hunt in the exhibition.  In addition, members of the Studio Art Quilt Associates will present a show-and-tell of their recent work during a Trunk Show at 2pm.   Westminster Presbyterian Church – Noon – 4:00pm. Saturday, April 2 – Life in a Vernal Pool – Sterling Nature Center, Jensvold Rd., Sterling. Join Interpretive Naturalist Jim D’Angelo for a look into the vernal pools of the Sterling Nature Center. Vernal pools are small wetlands that temporarily fill with water providing essential habitat for frogs, salamanders, turtles and even a few snakes!!! We will explore these unique wetlands looking for spotted salamanders, fairy shrimp, tadpoles and other wildlife that utilize them.
