Imagine That… Hosts Opening for Betsy Andrus Smith Oct. 2, 2009

Gallery also introduces Trollbeads Empowerment beads in October, donating 50 percent of sales to Komen for the Cure

Imagine That…, the new fine arts and fine craft gallery at 38 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles, will host an opening reception Oct. 2 for an exhibition of paintings, jewelry and slumped glass plates by Seneca Falls artist Betsy Andrus Smith. The event, from 6 to 9 p.m., will offer an opportunity to meet the artist, along with refreshments and entertainment by The Usual Suspects, an old-time string band.

Smith, an award-winning painter, has exhibited at the Salon du Vieux Colombier Paris; Musee D’Art Moderne in Tonneins, France; and Agora Gallery and Abney Gallery in New York. Her work is currently featured in Manhattan Arts International magazine.

“My process opens with music, and the brush dancing to the music on the page, allowing the work to directly unfold from my soul,” says Smith. “It is spirited with experimentation of color, composition and physical form. I work directly from the experiences of a life as a woman painter, dealing with the emotions common to us as women, individually and collectively.”

The exhibit runs through the month of October.

Also during October, Imagine That… will donate 50 percent of the sale of Trollbeads’ pink-and-white Empowerment beads to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Empowerment bead collection is being introduced in October to coincide with the 25th anniversary of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To broaden the beads’ appeal, Trollbeads has designed the collection to fit competitors’ bracelets as well as its own.

A Trollbeads bracelet will be raffled off at the art opening, with proceeds benefiting Komen for the Cure.

The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
