“Butternuts for Rexford”, book #1 of a series for children, was released on Dec10th, 2008. Central New York author Tom Adessa has taken a childhood memory of hand raising a squirrel that had fallen out of its nest and woven that passion for nature into a children’s book. Rexford a red squirrel is afraid of heights and with the help of some new found friends learns to conquer his fear. Not only will children learn about the power of friendships and how to deal with life’s many obstacles, but they will also gain knowledge of nature and be challenged by the dialogue in “Butternuts for Rexford.”
CreeksideBooks, Fennel St., Skaneateles, NY 13152, Myers Book Binding, Market St, Auburn, NY 13021 and other local booksellers will carry the tale. North Country Books, 220 Lafayette St. Utica, NY will be the primary distributor.
Readings and Signings: On January 17th, 2009 at 1:00pm Creekside Books and Coffee, 35 Fennel Street, Skaneateles will host a reading and book signing of this heartwarming tale. There will be free raffles for the children. Literacy Volunteers of Auburn will receive a portion of the book sales. A fun day for kids and adults alike. Books will be available for purchase.
Quote: “Kids come in all shapes, sizes, peculiarities and intellects. If yours love books, nature, the challenge of new words, and a story that gives them something to think about then “Butternuts for Rexford” might just be the book for them…and for you!”

So the holidays are over. The hustle, the bustle and allll the fussing. Little Lily is happy with her American Doll and Little Lyle is thrilled with his Baguka Launcher. (Dont ask.) Take a deep breath and thank your lucky stars, as its finally time to just sit back eh, go ahead and lie down, you deserve it and relax.
After a season of selflessness, good spirit and generosity, youve earned yourself a little selfish me time.
Treat yourself to something special at Spa Mirbeau, where you can soothe your senses with a luxurious massage, body wrap or facial treatment in an elegant room featuring a fireplace, followed by a dip of the tootsies in the heated foot pool of the resting area. Further restore your inner peace at Solely U and choose from a full body Swedish massage, Reiki, reflexology, ion foot cleanse or a hot stone massage whatever tickles your fancy. Hopefully youre not too ticklish, however, as that could be awkward in a massage. Indulge yourself at SpaZend for exceptional massage services, body scrubs, eye treatments, you name it. Cure whatever is ailing you using the indigenous healing traditions of Asia, inspired by practitioners of ancient cultures.

So Aunt Rita said you put on a little weight at your Christmas get-together this year, hmm? What better way to melt the extra holiday ham on your haunches than to get outside in the winter wonderland we call home?! Don your new winter jacket and semi-goofy knit mittens (handspun by that nay-sayer Aunt Rita) and try snowshoeing (which burns 475 calories per hour*), cross-country skiing (475 calories per hour*), or even building a snow cave (285 calories per hour*) at Beaver Lake Nature Center. Beaver Lake is the perfect habitat (pun intended) for every wintry activity imaginable with its winding trails and 200-acre glacial lake. Text a friend to go ice skating in Clinton Square (burns 400 calories an hour* plus the thumb movements involved in texting), or hop on a horse drawn hay or sleigh rides (not a major calorie burner, unfortunately, unless you run alongside the horse) at Highland Forest.
If you absolutely MUST avoid the chill, or you simply prefer hitting the gym for daily exercise (how unexciting), explore inside at the MOST. Fly away with The Wonderful World of Butterflies, featuring an extensive collection of over 400 preserved butterflies from five continents; sign up for a Winter Science Class; or watch amazing IMAX movie, The Human Body”, which explores the magic of our very own bodies, opening January 10th. Make the MOST out of winter. (Couldnt help myself.)

Johannes Lindstead Guitarist of Year Plays Central New York
From being named Guitarist of the Year in the 2007 Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards, to winning three best album awards, to four top-ten charting albums, to top-ten radio airplay, Johannes Linstead has become recognized internationally as one of best selling guitarist/composers in the Instrumental and World Music genres. Johannes let?s loose a fiesta of Spanish guitar magic!
Johannes’ live performances are nothing short of phenomenal. Bursting with tropical sounds, audiences are moved to dance and clap along to his music. In concert, as on his recordings, Johannes strives to create a festive mood, leaving plenty of room for lightning fast guitar improvisations and spicy percussion solos, which include bongos, congas, timbale and doumbek. Lively Latin and Mediterranean rhythms combined with Johannes’ technical virtuosity leave audiences breathless.

Grada are based in Dublin and Galway, Ireland, where they began playing together in 2001. Since then, they have taken Irish traditional music forward to a new level, effortlessly blending contemporary music styles, modern songs and other forms of ethnic music into their own natural style. Grada has enjoyed a rapid path to success, based on their infectious, modern take on Irish music. They have an exceptional rapport with audiences, whether it is in concert halls, clubs, or outdoor festivals. Their music encompasses a diverse range of styles and features musicians not only from Ireland, but also from New Zealand, England and Denmark.
