Dear Skaneateles Chamber Member:
The Skaneateles Education Foundation will be publishing a customized version of Monopoly, called “Skanopoly” to raise money for education in our community. Skanopoly will be available in local stores starting in late November. 1000 games will be published and they will be sold for $30.00 each, with all proceeds going to education.
Many local merchants and restaurants have generously sponsored properties on the Board and we thank them for their support. We are also including in the game a Patron Partnership Booklet, to provide ads for local businesses and to give them an opportunity to support the Skanopoly project and the mission of the Foundation. We hope this gives everyone an opportunity to participate in this community wide project.
Please take a look at the attached document, detailing the Partnership booklet and how you can participate for $50 per ad. This is a unique opportunity to place an ad in a booklet that will be viewed by families and tourists of the community for many years to come. Please note that there is a deadline for submission of August 10, 2010.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and support. Questions, please contact me at 291-2212 or smagee@skanschools.org

Skaneateles Chamber, Lions Club Host Charity Golf Tourney and Dinner June 8, 2009
Event Is Another Way Chamber, Lions Club Give Back to Community
Skaneateles’ annual Charity Golf Tournament and Dinner will take place June 8, 2009 at the Skaneateles Country Club. The event, sponsored by the Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce and the Skaneateles Lions Club, will benefit the Skaneateles Lake Milfoil Eradication Project, along with special projects of the Chamber and the Lions Club.
The shotgun start for the tournament is at 12:30 p.m.; registration is $150/person and includes dinner. Cash prizes and a trophy will be awarded to the top men’s, women’s and mixed division teams. Krenzer Marine has donated a 2009 Chaparel motorboat, which will be awarded for a hole in one on Hole #1.
Non-golfers are also invited to take part—tickets for just the dinner are $50/person. The program begins at 5 p.m. and features a wine tasting by Anyela’s Vineyards and Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars, whacky golf games, a silent auction, and music by pianist Adam Gay, followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. and after-dinner music by the Mere Mortals.
“The lake is our most important asset, and it is threatened by the spread of Eurasian watermilfoil,” says Susan Dove, executive director of the Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce. “The Milfoil Eradication Project, now in its third and final year, has made substantial progress in clearing patches of milfoil from the lake. We’re proud to support this effort, and we hope the entire community will join us.”
Although the Chamber is best known for supporting local business, it sponsors a number of other community service programs as well. Chief among them is the Citizen of the Year Dinner, which is held biannually and recognizes a longtime Skaneateles resident for giving unselfishly of his or her time to better the community. Along with the dinner, the Chamber gives a donation to the charity of the recipient’s choice. This year’s honoree will be announced in July.
The Chamber also sponsors the Community Docks—putting them in each spring (this year’s Dock Day is June 13) and removing them each fall. Throughout July and August, Chamber staff members are available to assist boaters every day from noon to 8 p.m.
In addition, the Chamber helps keep streets in the village clean; answers visitors’ questions; hires students to provide additional services throughout the summer; and donates posters from the Antique and Classic Boat Show to fund-raising auctions for the Skaneateles Historical Society, WCNY, the Rescue Mission, schools and other organizations.
“Giving back to the community is an important component of what we do,” says Dove. “Many of our members embrace this action individually, and we feel it’s important for the Chamber to do so as an organization—helping to improve the quality of life for all who live, work and visit here.”
