Wednesday, August 4 Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Onondaga County is
hosting a two-part forest management workshop, sponsored by the City of Syracuse
Water Department. The first workshop will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at
the First Presbyterian Church, Skaneateles, NY. This indoor lecture, presented by Kim
Adams from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, will focus on
general forest management practices, information on invasive insects threatening our
forests, and how to manage for these insects. For details about the workshop and to
register, call Kacie Gehl at 315-424-9485 x232. This workshop is free to the
community.

Friday Night Kick-off Dance
Central New York’s TomatoFest is bringing a new event to the 2008 Festival! This year’s festival has been extended to include a Friday night TomatoFest Kick-off Dance.

Where:  Main Pavilion at Emerson Park
When:  Friday, September 5, 2008; 8-11 pm

Cost is only $5.00 per person. All proceeds benefit area food pantries.
Raffle prizes have been donated by TomatoFest Craft and Commercial vendors—you could be a winner!

Tomato Recipe Cook-off
As part of the bigger and better Tomatofest 2008, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County is coordinating a Tomato Recipe Cook-off for amateur chefs who want to showcase their favorite recipes, using fresh tomatoes.
Recipes submitted to the Tomato Recipe Cookoff must include fresh tomatoes as a major ingredient. The nutrition program at Cooperative Extension will select 8 recipes to be prepared by contestants in their licensed, commercial kitchen and judged by a panel of tasters on August 25. Prizes for the winning recipes will be awarded at TomatoFest.
1st Prize — $200 Gift Certificate – NY Wine & Culinary Center
