HISTORY: 7:30 PM at The Museum at The Creamery, 28 Hannum St.

Charles Loring Elliott (1812-1868) was one of the most prominent American portrait painters of

the 19th century. His works hang in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery in

Washington, D.C., the Everson Museum in Syracuse – and in the Skaneateles Library, where nine

are on display. Visitors to the library often ask about these portraits. Who are they? Now,

thanks to research by Sally Holben, these former Skaneateles residents have been identified.

Dannette Davis, librarian at Seymour Library in Auburn, will present a slide show and will share

the stories of these portraits and the artist who painted them.

Against a backdrop of strict censorship and an unresponsive legal system, Ai expresses himself and organizes people through art and social media. In response, Chinese authorities have shut down his blog, beat him up, bulldozed his newly built studio, and held him in secret detention. AI WEIWEI: NEVER SORRY is the inside story of a dissident for the digital age who inspires global audiences and blurs the boundaries of art and politics. First-time director Alison Klayman gained unprecedented access to Ai while working as a journalist in China. Her detailed portrait provides a nuanced exploration of contemporary China and one of its most compelling public figures.  Tickets $5/online, $6/at the door, 12/7, 1:00 & 8:00 pm, 12/8, 8:00 pm.  www.auburnpublictheater.org  315-253-6669
