Exhibition by Karen Burns Opens at Imagine That… Gallery Oct. 1
Silent Auction Oct. 2-10 Supports Craft Emergency Relief Fund

Throughout October, Imagine That…, the fine arts and fine craft gallery at 38 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles, will feature landscape paintings by Syracuse artist Karen Burns, whose paintings and sculptures can be found in collections throughout the Northeast.

The show opens Oct. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m., as part of the village’s First Friday art night and Skaneateles’ annual Fall Fest Weekend. Refreshments and musical entertainment will be provided.

Burns has painted and exhibited her work for more than 30 years while also working as a graphic artist and illustrator, designing logos, posters, magazines and books.

For the last decade, she has focused primarily on oils and watercolor, working both in her studio and outdoors. She derives inspiration from the unique natural beauty and variety found in upstate New York’s landscape.

Also in October, Imagine That… will host a silent auction to support Craft Emergency Relief Fund+ Artists’ Emergency Resources (CERF+), which offers grants, loans and brokered assistance to craft artists suffering career-threatening emergencies.

“We will have a beautiful display of artwork donated in support of this important organization,” says Sarah Panzarella, co-owner of Imagine That…. “The artworks, along with sheets showing their current bid, will be on display Oct. 2-10. On Oct. 10, we will call the winners and send all proceeds to CERF+.”

Among the donated works are an etching by James Skvarch of Syracuse, 14-karat-gold sunstone earrings by Cole Sheckler of Ithaca, and a Flare Console table by Curviture Studio/Jason Green of Boone, N.C.

Imagine That… is located in the lakeside village of Skaneateles, nestled in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York. It offers a distinctive collection of fine and handcrafted jewelry, blown glass, pottery and painting, as well as other unique gifts for special occasions.

The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Imagine That… Gallery Opens Show by Thaddeus Chapman July 2

Imagine That…, the fine arts and fine craft gallery at 38 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles, will showcase the work of Tully artist Thaddeus Chapman throughout the month of July. The show opens July 2 from 6 to 9 p.m., during the village’s First Friday art night. Refreshments and musical entertainment will be provided.

Although Chapman considers himself a portrait painter, many of the works he will be exhibiting feature scenes of Skaneateles, including the Judge Ben Wiles, a view of the village from the pier, Skaneateles Lake as seen from East Lake Road, and Fennell Street on Memorial Day.

Chapman’s paintings are created using gouache on paper—a process that involves applying layers of water-based paint to a very thin rice paper, which then absorbs the paint and becomes a part of the artwork.

“I use a lot of water and color to build up the dimension of a painting,” says Chapman, who describes his style as impressionistic.

Before Chapman starts to paint, he takes reference photographs of his subject and develops drawings from them. He has completed custom pieces ranging from portraits of pets to pictures of houses, families and celebrities, including Elizabeth Taylor, Charlie Chaplin and Alfred Hitchcock.

An illustration of his appeared in the March/April 2008 issue of Making Music magazine. His works also have been on view at Armory Square’s Freedom of Espresso coffee shop and at the Sugarpearl coffee shop on Burnet Avenue.

Chapman is a 2004 graduate of Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts. This is his first gallery show.

Imagine That… opened last July, and in March the gallery welcomed Imagine to their new combined location. “The combination of gallery and jewelry store has been a great success thus far, and sharing the family business is a joy,” says Imagine That…. owner Sarah Panzarella.

Her father, Joe Panzarella, owner of Imagine, is equally pleased with the metamorphosis of Imagine and Imagine That… into a single entity. “We had no idea they would work so well together,” he says. “When we put them together, we got the ‘wow’ factor.

“Our customers love the space, the view, the feel. They come not only to purchase art, but also to appreciate the wide variety of works and talent on display. They enjoy the entire atmosphere.

“At Imagine, we had always talked about having gallery shows, but we never had the room to stage them,“ he says. “This location gives us that space, and has allowed us to expand into fine art, ceramics, fiber, and additional glass and woodworking. In addition, customers now benefit from the aesthetic tastes of two buyers, instead of just one.”

Imagine That… is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

For more information, call the gallery at 685-6264.

Orange Line Gallery is about showcasing visual art from the Central New York community and beyond. We have moved to our new location at 305 Montgomery Street, 2nd Floor, Syracuse, NY 13202 and continue featuring several artists at a time as part of each show. All of the work shown is available for sale in the Gallery and online (that feature is coming soon!); and limited edition prints are also available from several artists.
The mission of Orange Line Gallery is to promote original artwork and educate the public about art. Our vision is for the Gallery to be a destination for everyone from the serious collector and designer, to the curious. We will expose the community to thoughtful works of art; from the beautiful to the disturbing. It is possible for everyone to define what they like and why, and then develop their own personal style. No one has to live uninspired.
Since opening in our second floor walk-up things have been great! (Pics of the new space are coming) The renovations continue to add more gallery space. If you haven’t been by to say hello and see the new space, please do! Our inventory of artwork continues to grow, and if you’re looking for something in particular see gallery owner, Melissa Tiffany, she’ll find it. As always, we are on the lookout for fresh, new work from artists (again, contact Melissa).
The Gallery is located within walking distance to several downtown offices and adjacent to fine restaurants and pubs throughout downtown.

Current Gallery hours are Thursdays & Fridays from 5:30pm – 10pm, Saturdays from noon – 6pm, and by appointment.
Please bear with us while we finish construction on the website…we’ll be adding more content on the artists and their images, including a shop online feature. We’re also working on a map of downtown (including parking) and links to other sites. By the way, the City of Syracuse is offering free & reduced parking in local parking garages, give us your parking stub & we’ll validate it for a reduced rate (and our garage is located next door!)
