Our Blog

Halloween is fast approaching and pumpkins of all sizes and shapes are on display on porches, stoops, and sidewalks.

Here at Snake Oil Glassworks that means it is time for our annual Pumpkin Fest, a weekend long opportunity for you to drop by the studio and watch us make glass pumpkins in various sizes, shapes, and colors. The studio will be open Saturday, October 19th and Sunday, October 20th from 11 am – 5 pm each day. We will be offering our usual “pick your own pumpkin” opportunity. For a special price you may select the colors and size of your own custom designed pumpkin and then see it created by our skilled gaffer and assistants. Watch as glowing liquid glass becomes something that you can cherish for many years!

Whether you come to get your own or just come to watch, there will fun Fall time refreshments and you may browse our store to see all the other wonderful glass pieces we have available.

Please remember you may park across the street at the church if our parking lot is full.

Imagine Hosts Exhibition on ‘Adirondack ABCs’

Throughout September, Imagine, the fine arts and fine craft gallery at 38 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles, will present an exhibition of original artwork from the children’s book “Adirondack ABCs.”

The exhibition opens 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 6, as part of Skaneateles’ First Friday art walk. Refreshments will be provided, along with entertainment by the Usual Suspects.

“Adirondack ABCs,” written by Joyce Burgess Snavlin and illustrated by Linda Davis Reed, introduces young readers to the alphabet through Adirondack scenes and icons, such as bears and beavers, frogs and ferns, lean-tos and loons.

Original artwork from the book was exhibited this past spring at View Art Center’s Eco Gallery, in Old Forge.

“We brought the exhibition to Skaneateles because we believe it’s something the whole family will enjoy,” says gallery director Sarah Panzarella.

Imagine is located in the lakeside village of Skaneateles, nestled in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York. It represents artists from across the country and Canada, along with many Central New York artists, to create one of the most diverse contemporary art collections in the area.

The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For Hotel Rooms and Suites call 315-685-7568

For more information, call (315) 685-6263 or go to www.imagineskaneateles.com or www.facebook.com/imagineskaneateles.

On Mother’s Day, Sunday May 8th, 2011 from 11am to 4pm, the private gardens at Sycamore Hill Gardens, 2130 Old Seneca Turnpike, Marcellus, will be open to the public. The over 30 acres of themed gardens feature 500,000 flowering bulbs, 700 varieties of trees, thousands of perennials, an evergreen maze, a folly, and ponds filled with colorful Japanese Koi fish waiting to be fed. Sculpture and statuary are strategically placed throughout. In the bell gardens, visitors ring bells and sound gongs, layering the gardens with an audible texture.

Encouraged to enjoy the gardens, people bring picnics, spread out blankets, and linger all day. Opportunities for nature photography, outdoor painting and drawing abound.

Browse the Art Exhibit and enjoy unique works of art for sale by talented local artists. Find special pieces to treasure, as well as gifts for summer weddings and other occasions.
Events are held rain or shine. The garden is handicapped accessible. Parking is free.
?All proceeds benefit Baltimore Woods Nature Center.
