Our Blog![]() Imax_Syracuse_Hurricane Narrated by Meryl Streep, HURRICANE ON THE BAYOU takes a look at Louisiana before, during and after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The film follows a group of four musicians, both established and rising, as they reveal the thrilling culture of New Orleans. The musicians explore the alligator-filled bayous of Louisiana, recount their personal stories of Katrina and bring focus to the swiftly disappearing wetlands that protect New Orleans from deadly storms. Originally filmed in 2005, two-time Academy Award ®-nominated director Greg MacGillivray began shooting HURRICANE ON THE BAYOU as a warning about the destruction of Louisiana’s wetlands and the danger that a hypothetical hurricane could bring to the region. In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina came to Louisiana and realized the very message MacGillivray was trying to send. The film then became a glimpse into the fury of Katrina and the slow rebuilding process of New Orleans. |
