Mother’s Day Garden Tour and Art Show Herald the Arrival of Spring

On Mother’s Day, Sunday May 13th, 2012 from 11am to 4pm, the private gardens at Sycamore Hill Gardens, 2130 Old Seneca Turnpike, Marcellus, will again be open to the public. This annual event features over 30 acres of themed gardens with 500,000 flowering bulbs, 700 varieties of trees, thousands of perennials, an evergreen maze, a folly, and ponds filled with colorful Japanese Koi fish waiting to be fed. Sculpture and statuary are strategically placed throughout the gardens, and include a bell garden, where children young and old ring bells and sound gongs. This annual event draws a crowd upwards of 3,000 visitors every year from across the region.

Photography, outdoor painting and drawing are all encouraged. Visitors bring picnics, spread out blankets, and linger all day in this lovely setting. Byrne Dairy generously provides free beverages at the garden tour. Plank Road Magazine is also a sponsor of the event.

The popular Art Exhibit “Art in Bloom” is held in the large greenhouse, and has grown in size every year. In 2012 over 15 area artists are participating, sharing and selling their work in a gallery setting. Works in all media, all sizes and price ranges wait to become special pieces to treasure as well as gifts for summer weddings and other special occasions.
New in 2012 is an advance preview special art reception for Baltimore Woods Nature Center’s ticketed members only. This reception is on Saturday, May 12, 4-6pm. Artists will be on hand to discuss their work. Refreshments will be provided by Stephen Landon, farm to table chef, Skaneateles, assisted by Patty Weisse, locavore foodie and executive director of Baltimore Woods Nature Center.

Events are held rain or shine. The garden is handicapped accessible. Parking is free.
?All proceeds benefit Baltimore Woods Nature Center.
