Our BlogHistoric Homes Tour 2008 & Art in the Park Saturday October 4th, 2008 from 10AM – 4PM The homes tour showcases seven homes in the vicinity of Hoopes Park, on East Genesee Street, and Art in the Park includes an art show and sale, plus entertainment, food, and a First Edition book signing by Kevin Rivoli, photographer and author of “In Search of Norman Rockwell’s America.” In addition, Auburnians and residents from around the Hoopes Park area will be combining their postcards and artifacts to create a display commemorating the beauty of Hoopes Park. Musical entertainment will be offered all day long, performers include: Jazzitude, featuring Lou Nocilly on saxophone; Warren Robinson on trumpet; Mike Burns on bass and Dave Chitambar on drums will set the pace, with a lively mix of Big Band standards and Latin Bosa Nova. Well known throughout the local music scene, each musician has played at many local venues, the most recent performance at Big Kahuna’s. Vocalist Mimi McHale and her band, Second Wind, offer smooth jazz, blues, country and Latin rhythms. This close-knit ensemble, consisting of McHale, manager/guitarist Bill Tracy, bassist Dave Arliss, flautist/vocalist Cathy Mullarney and guitarist Bob Felter have been performing in Auburn and the surrounding area for the past six years, since the first cocktail party fundraiser for the Matthew House. Paul Saltarello playing mandolin and vocals, with a special guest accordionist, rounds out the afternoon with traditional Italian-American music. Paul, who also sings at Rosalie’s Cuchina, in Skaneateles, is a well known and much loved local musician, having entertained local audiences for many years. Adding to his accomplishments, Paul is presently leading an Italian American folklore group in Rochester, and can be heard on the radio every Sunday morning from 9 -11AM on WDWN. Houses on the tour will include the residences of: Dr. Michael & Julie Speck’s home, at 109 Herman Ave., is a brick and wood colonial located across the street from the park’s entrance. The home features a large cooking fireplace with a nearby beehive oven, and a well-kept Williamsburg garden. This years show will be a spectacular one day event on Saturday, June 28 from 10 am to 5 pm with more than 40 artists and crafts people showing and selling their original work. Food will be provided by the Friends of Marcellus Park and music by John Rossbach and Perry Cleaveland. Kids can exercise their artistic skill coloring images of famous Art Masterpieces from Michaelangelo to Picasso. MSAG is a volunteer group of artists and crafts people who gather to support each other and the arts in CNY. Monthly meetings encompass lectures, training and critique sessions for Guild members and area artists. New members are always welcome to join.
