David Lindley is a Grammy nominated multi-instrumentalist that redefines the word “eclectic.” The majority of instruments Lindley has incorporated are string instruments, including the acoustic and electric guitar, banjo, electric lap steel guitar, Weissenborn, mandolin, fiddle, saz baglama, bouzouki, and oud . Known for his 40+ years as the featured accompanist with Jackson Browne as well as being the leader of his own band El Rayo-X, Lindley’s performances effortlessly combines American folk, blues, and bluegrass traditions with elements from African, Arabic, Asian, Celtic, Spanish, Breton, Malagasy and Turkish, Armenian and Persian musical sources.
Although the Civil Rights Act of 1964 legally desegregated the South, discrimination was still rampant in certain areas, making it very difficult for blacks to register to vote. In 1965, an Alabama city became the battleground in the fight for suffrage. Despite violent opposition, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (David Oyelowo) and his followers pressed forward on an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, and their efforts culminated in President Lyndon Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
