Jazz in the Square
Clinton Square

 W. Genesee and S. Clinton Street

Syracuse

July 24-26

The 7th Anniversary  “Jazz in the Square” festival will be held July 24-26 in Clinton Square, Hanover Square and across downtown Syracuse, NY. This year the festival is the performing arts anchor for the inaugural “Syracuse Artsweek” festival of festivals, with a proven total audience of 50,000. Appearing will be major artists such as Blues Brother “Bones” Malone, Arturo O’Farrill’s Latin Jazz All-Stars, “The Saxtress” Pamela Williams, NEA Jazzmaster Curtis Fuller and his Superband with Randy Brecker and Jason Marsalis, the National Youth Jazz Sextet led by Noah Kellman, and the CNY Jazz Orchestra, among many other great bands. Opening the festival is a symphonic jazz concert featuring the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra with vocalists Nancy Kelly & Ronnie Leigh. AGAIN THIS YEAR on the second stage is a full weekend of Latin Jazz and Funky Jazz, followed by late night jams at Jazz Central and dance parties sponsored by The Ohm Lounge and Sophistications Jazz Cafe. The third Hanover Square Club Crawl is again sponsored by Hollerback Productions and 40 Below Public Art, featuring cutting edge funky jazz bands that will appear on stage in Hanover Square, strolling in Armory Square, and in select clubs across downtown, in an expanded three-day schedule. A fine dining restaurant row and wine court are features of the festival site in Clinton Square. A scholastic festival will again be presented on the main stage with Yamaha artist Bret Zvacek as guest artist-educator, who will solo with each group an dcoach in an “open classroom” setting. Late night jam sessions in the “Jazz Central” arts center will complete each evening. The entire three-day outdoor event is free of charge (some clubs may charge small covers).
